I believe we are fast approaching a crossroad. We have been listening to too many external narrators tell us how our stories unfold. Lost in the abyss of those voices, we have allowed our lens to become blurred and do not always fully see what is right in front of us – that we each hold the power to create what we want for ourselves and can be a beacon of hope for others.

There has been a divide, one that is slowly breaking apart the very ground upon which we stand. Instead of embracing difference and learning from perspective, we cancel and exclude those that hold dissimilar beliefs. We possess the instruments to enact positive change but get blinded by external forces that are preventing us from truly fixing the root causes of our society’s problems.

We are consumed by mediums that hinder our authenticity and engender lies that masquerade as truths, and truths shrouded in thick coverings, twisted to only advance the gains of the few.

With steady streams of dissent flowing, I at times felt powerless. In a way a reluctant spectator, reading and watching the world happen before my very eyes.

How can one person make a difference, I often thought to myself.

What could I do to shape a better tomorrow for myself and the people of our world?

We are all on a journey through life, and each of our destinations may be different. But even so, our lives intersect and the power, the magic, lies within each of those connections.

In a world that is more empathetic, tolerant, supportive, and yet still ambitious – we can create an environment that will help us all to thrive.

The crossroad is nearing but I no longer feel powerless. One person can make a difference when we each progress toward our individual goals and stand in support of others.

Impact is realized through conscious and deliberate actions.

It is up to us to accelerate change in our lives and in the lives of others. There will always be noise and constant narration from external sources, but now is the time to look within and as individuals and collectively as a society make a difference.

It starts with me.
